Disclosure: Please note that some of the links below are affiliate links and at no additional cost to you, I may earn a commission. Know that I only recommend learning resources I’ve personally used and believe are genuinely helpful, not because of the small commissions I make if you decide to purchase them. Most of all, I would never advocate for buying something that you can’t afford or that you’re not yet ready to implement.

Most of these blogging courses are taught by bloggers who’ve not only built massive audiences of their own, but have also grown their blogs into becoming full-time businesses for themselves. Because when it comes to learning how to start a profitable blog, it pays dividends to learn only from those who’ve actually walked the walk.

Are blogging courses really worth the investment?

If you’re wondering whether or not investing in a paid blogging course will be the right decision, I bet I can guess why you’re really here. You’ve had blogging in the back of your mind—maybe you love writing but can’t settle on a topic, or you have knowledge you want to share but can’t get your head around how to set up a blog to properly share it.

Whatever your situation or the stage you’re at in your blogging journey, you’ve decided that this is your time to really make big things happen. It’s not easy to grow a blog that can replace your full-time job, but you can make it happen with time, effort, the right strategies and most importantly—guidance. And the right blogging courses are hands down your best shot at getting on the fast track to replicating the success from other experienced bloggers.

You know you have a lot to learn, and you want to learn from the best. That’s why I put together this list of the best blogging courses, for any blogger looking to take their business seriously. I recommend taking this list one-by-one starting with Built to Blog (my comprehensive course) at the very top of this list.

Where (and how) can you find the best blogging courses?

When it comes to blogging courses, there are a few different options for where to find the best ones.

Some creators (like me) host their blogging courses through their own websites—like with Built to Blog right here—so if you have a blogger you really admire and enjoy learning from, it’s worth checking to see if they have anything available directly. Going straight to the source means cutting out the middle-man, and you can often get special pricing or offers straight from the instructor.

There are also platforms that specialize in hosting online courses—the major ones are Udemy and Skillshare. I’ve featured blogging courses from both platforms on this list, but there’s a lot of overlap.

Udemy allows you to buy courses individually, and runs frequent sales, so if you’re interested in a blogging course that’s a bit pricey, keep an eye out for deals. Skillshare operates by membership, so if you purchase their Premium membership you get unlimited access to all their blogging courses. Both of these platforms host student reviews to get an idea of how well-received the content is.

Finally, there are blogging courses hosted by major companies or online universities, which can have the benefit of being a highly recognizable line item on your resume.

Built to Blog Online Course with Ryan Robinson Hero Image (Camera and Microphone)

First, we begin with setting up your blog, including how to name your blog, smart ways to pick a niche to blog about, buying an affordable domain with Bluehost or another monthly web hosting company, setting up and optimizing Wordpress, and installing all the crucial plugins I personally use. Then we take a deep dive into developing a blogging strategy, generating clever blog post ideas, keyword research, demographics and constructing great calls to action that’ll help build your email list over time. Try my free keyword research tool for a preview!

Once we get through that, we go into the fun part—how to drive traffic to your blog without spending a dime, by creating a cohesive blog SEO strategy. I’ve employed every content strategy under the sun over the last few years, and I go through the best ones, from guest blogging to interviewing experts. We’ll also cover the importance of building an email list and best practices for doing it well.

Finally, we’ll get to the good stuff: how to actually make money blogging. I’ve got tons of experience generating well into the six-figures from my own blog that I share in-depth, including how to do sponsored content, sell your services, launch digital products, start a profitable podcast, get started with a vlog (on YouTube), learn how to navigate affiliate programs for bloggers and much more.

When you join Built to Blog, you’ll also get access to free templates (like my blog post outline as one example) that you can take right now and use on your blog today. Most importantly though, I give students a step-by-step game plan to taking action and achieving your goal of building a profitable blog—including the pitfalls most beginners need to avoid.

Trust me, I’ve been where you are today. And after years of trial and error, my blog has become a success. And if you get sick of learning from only me, I have a growing stable of interviews with over 10 of the world’s top bloggers (like Jon Morrow pictured below) that you can tune into as well.

2. Blogging 101: Build a Successful Blog in 2024 and Beyond (Course Here)

Blogging Masterclass How To Build A Successful Blog (Blogging Courses)

Cost: $190

This is another blogging course that I would consider “all-in-one,” and is great for beginners that are just starting out and want to dive straight in (though it has just 2 hours of content). Starting with an overview of Wordpress (which today’s latest blogging statistics show is the CMS of choice for bloggers), this course will show you how to set up your blog and install the right WordPress plugins. You’ll also learn about what types of content you can post and how to write it well, how to promote it, and how to build an email list, figure out your blog email marketing, and more adequately decide between ConvertKit vs AWeber vs Mailchimp as your marketing tool of choice (and more).

Finally, you’ll learn a few different revenue models you can employ on your blog, although this is more of an overview than a deep dive. However, this is a great place to get a solid overview of what it will take to get your blog to succeed, from start to finish.

3. The Blog Village: Tools and Training to Create, Grow, and Monetize Your Blog

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers The Blog Village

Cost: $1 to set up a blog, $9/month for basic resources (Basic), $29/month for more lessons and greater access (Plus), $300/year for full access (Professional)

The tagline for The Blog Village is “create, grow, monetize,” – and that just about sums it up, doesn’t it? The structure is a bit different than the rest of these blogging courses, because it’s not just an online course. In addition to providing access to lessons, they also have a variety of blogging tools that can make your life a lot easier as a blogger. Depending on what you want access to, you can pay a one-time payment of $1 for help setting up your blog, or somewhere between $9 a month to $300 a year for different levels of access.

The basic lessons available cover how to set up WordPress, plugins, Google Analytics, and even freelance photography tips. The Plus plan adds lessons on Adobe Lightroom, social media, and advertising, and the Pro plan wraps up with videography tips, Adobe Premiere, affiliate marketing, and working with brands.

They also have access to great tools like a dashboard to see all your social media stats, private forums where you can chat with other bloggers, and a community-sourced knowledge base on tons of topics. However, their most popular tool (only accessible with the Professional plan) is their auto image resizing tool, which resizes images for you based on the specifications of every social media platform. Pretty cool, right? Best of all, you only pay for as long as you want access to the lessons and tools – you can cancel your membership in this blogging course at any time.

Niche Blogging Courses

You may be wondering what I mean by blog niche areas. Isn’t every blog in a niche area? That’s somewhat true, but there’s a long list of profitable niche topics that a lot of blogs fall into, including travel blogging, food blogging, personal blogging, lifestyle blogging, mom blogging, dad blogging and more.

If you know you want to go into one of these areas, it could be worth it to take an blogging course on how to do it from, well, someone who’s done exactly that. They can share tips and tricks, mistakes to avoid, and industry-specific knowledge that could be invaluable (like whether it’s worthwhile leaning into AI writing tools for your niche, or not.

6. Blog by Number (Course Here)

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers Blog by Number

Cost: $120

For moms, connecting with other moms is one of the most valuable ways to bond and feel validated. Is it any surprise that the so-called “mommy blogs” have gotten as popular as they have? It’s a great way for parents to connect and share tips, advice, or just plain vent to one another.

However, some want to take it a step further, and try to turn it into a source of income. Who would you turn to other than another mommy blogger who made it happen? Blog by Numbers was created just for other hopefully mommy-bloggers, and covers the essentials: how to pick a niche to blog about, setting up your website, how to make money by adding an online store to your blog, how to make great images for Pinterest, and ultimately, how to drive traffic and grow your email list.

With everything tailored to the mom blog niche, this blogging course is a great choice for someone who knows they want to go in the mommy blogging direction. Side note: Check out my tutorial that answers the question, how much do bloggers make?

7. Blogging Basics (Course Here)

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers Blogging Basics

Cost: Free!

If you’re just getting started and just want the basics, you might not be looking to plonk down a ton of money–besides, you can always decide if you really want to make an investment in a more comprehensive blogging course in the future.

This free blogging course is a great introduction to blogging, and covers the truly beginner stuff: which blogging platforms are available, blog layout and design tips, what pages you should have, and social media basics.

And if you like her stuff, check out her follow-up blogging course on creating great content below.

8. Elizabeth Stapleton’s Blogging Course

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers Elizabeth Stapleton’s Blogging Course

Cost: Free!

Hey I heard you like free blogging courses so here I am with another free one! This is another beginner course, but geared towards some of the more technical stuff that you may feel a bit lost thinking about.

It can be nice to have someone hold your hand a bit through the nitty gritty like using a domain name generator to come up with a great blog URL, buying a domain and selecting the best web hosting plan, setting up your WordPress account, and (the most exciting part) publishing your first post.

This is an excellent option if your inspiration tank is full, but the technicalities make your eyes glaze over a bit. Once you get a good grip on these basics, you can start thinking about more advanced courses on strategy, style, and hopefully raking in the dough in this blogging course.

9. WordPress for Beginners

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers WordPress for Beginners

Cost: $85

Legend has it if you say “WordPress” into your mirror three times, the ghost of a vengeful blogger will appear! Just kidding (obviously) but WordPress and bloggers are pretty much synonymous at this point. There are other platforms that you can use to blog, but WordPress tends to be the go-to. Because of this, I highly recommend cutting to the chase and having an expert teach you how the heck to use it.

This beginner blogging course on WordPress is perfect, as its tutorials will give you a clear roadmap on how to create your website, set up different categories, update, edit, and create interactive forms. These are all the essentials for your little blog to get rolling.

10. Guest Blogging Certification Program

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers Guest Blogging Certification Program

Cost: $499

The angle on this blogging course is a bit different than most of the blogs I included on this list–this is the perfect blogging course for you if you’re starting from the beginning, but you want to focus more on guest blogging (whether or not you have your own blog already).

Guest blogging is a whole other beast in a lot of ways, and while there’s a large section of my own blogging course, Built to Blog on the topic, having a dedicated course on it can cut down on a lot of time, stress, and trial and error that you’ll go through if you decide to tackle it alone.

This blogging course covers how to find your target audience and identify guest blogs to pitch on hosting all types of content, coming up with great blog post ideas, pitching and writing them effectively, and, most importantly, how to use guest blogging to pay those bills, telephone bills, and automo-bills (Beyoncé may not have paid those bills by guest blogging, but she gets it).

SEO (Search Engine Optimization-Focused) Blogging Courses

While the explanation of what SEO is can be found in the name, how to do it can be pretty mystifying. In comes SEO courses to help.

Long gone are the days of hoping people will find your blog no matter how you published it, we’re deep into the era of optimizing your content marketing for search engines. Search engines are the life-blood of most blog’s traffic, as the majority of your audience will find you that way. But how do you make your website and Google get along, so that your online business can thrive? Let’s talk SEO courses.

11. Intro to SEO Course: Tactics and Strategy for Entrepreneurs

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers Intro to SEO

Cost: Skillshare Premium Membership

If you’ve been doing your homework on how the Internet works these days, you’ve probably heard of the Moz tools. The Moz bar is an extension you can download and see the domain authority of your site for free—basically a number score of how legitimate your site is, which is what Google uses to determine where your site is going to rank on the results page.

How would you like to take a blogging masterclass on how to get your content optimized for Google by the co-founder of Moz? Yeah, me too.

This blogging course comes highly recommended because you know Rand knows what he’s talking about. He gives great, thorough, and easy to digest blogging lessons on how to create an SEO strategy, the fundamentals of optimizing your content, and tons of real-world examples in 90 minutes through this blogging course.

12. SEO for Bloggers (Course Here)

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers SEO for Bloggers

Cost: $197

If you’ve got a hankering for SEO that a 90-minute course can’t satisfy, check out SEO for Bloggers, a blogging course by Money Lab that’ll tell you literally everything you need to know (and more) about SEO.

Aside from an overview of SEO, he also goes through the plugins and software he uses and recommends, how to find the right keywords to target, formatting and optimizing your content, link building, and much more that would make this list way too long to read.

He runs three successful websites using these tools, tips, and tricks, and gives you a full behind-the-scenes tour of how he applies everything he’s teaching you in this blogging course to his actual website—no armchair philosophy here, this is real-world stuff that’s worth the investment.

Writing-Focused Blogging Courses

Writing well is one of those things that a lot of people think they can do until they actually sit down to do it. Thankfully, AI writing tools (like my free paragraph rewriter and the full suite of AI blogging tools inside RightBlogger) can help make that a little easier these days—check out my primer on AI copywriting to get a sense of how to do it.

Taking ideas from your brain and transforming them into content that is fun, easy-to-read, and engaging for your audience can be a huge challenge.

So what do you do when you’re tired of staring at that blank page? Learn from the best.

13. Creating Blog Content Your Readers Actually Want To Read (Course Here)

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers Creating Blog Content Your Readers Actually Want To Read

Cost: Skillshare Premium membership

Remember Theresa from earlier? She’s back! It’s one thing to have an idea for a great blog post, and even some ideas for guest posts you could write—but it’s another task entirely to think about what your reader actually wants, how to write a headline that’ll appeal to them, let alone learning how to write a blog post that’ll satisfy all their needs.

Thankfully, this blogging course can guide you through it. In the first part of this blogging course, you’ll learn how to understand your audience and what you have to offer. In the second part of the content, you’ll learn more about what great content looks like, and learn how you can apply what you learn to your own content in the future.

14. Intentional Blogging (Course Here)

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers Intentional Blogging

Cost: $197

The format of this blogging course is pretty unique, but that’s what makes it work so well. You’ll get an email every day for 12 days with a lesson you can learn and apply that day. It starts with how to start blogging (appropriate), and moves through deciding on the focus and voice your blog will have, how to optimize your content for search engines, guest posting, and formatting.

Having a daily lesson through blogging courses like this is a great way to not only get yourself thinking about your content in a concrete way, but also build up the habit of working on your blog every day.

Use My 25+ Powerful Free Blogging Tools Today

When I first started blogging, I couldn’t afford fancy tools. That sucked. And that’s why I’ve built a stable of powerful free blogging tools ranging from keyword research to an AI article writer, blog idea generator and more. Forever free for all to use—no strings attached.

Traffic Driving-Focused Blogging Courses

You’ve set up your blog, you’re writing cool stuff…but where is everybody? It’s no good writing good content if no one is there to read it. You can check out my tips on how to drive traffic to your website, but if that’s still not enough, you can also check out these courses.

15. Blog Traffic Blueprint (Course Here)

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers Blog Traffic Blueprint

Cost: $497

This blogging course brought to you by Jon Morrow has a very specific aim: to teach beginners five strategies for increasing traffic to their blog. There are lots of tactics available, like SEO and social media, but every tactic falls into one of these five strategies—and one of them will work to increase traffic to your blog.

I highly recommend this blogging course for committed beginners, as the payoff can be huge, but it doesn’t come cheap (in money or time). However, it’s great for getting you to think about your traffic strategy in a more “big-picture” way, and instead of developing a list of tactics from different courses, think about which tactics will fit in with your strategy. Not for the faint of heart!

16. Traffic Transformation (Course Here)

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers Traffic Transformation

Cost: $79

Again, I’m fudging the specifics a bit because this is a technically a blogging book, not an entire blogging course, but it’s so highly rated and recommended I had to include it on this list of the best blogging courses. It’s jam-packed with tutorials on what to do (and what not to do) to increase traffic to your blog, based on the real-life experience of Lena Gott and growing her own blog, What Mommy Does.

Through trial and error, she’s built up a long list of things that worked for her blog, like giving up on tasks she was spending hours a day on that had little to no payoff, promoting posts that were gaining popularity, and split test strategies (and a whole lot more). Side note: Check out my ultimate guide about how to write an eBook if you want to incorporate selling eBooks into your own blog with this business course.

Email List Building-Focused Blogging Courses

Your email list is going to be the main way you communicate with your readers when they aren’t on your blog.

You get to pop into their inbox, say hi, and get them excited about something new, or preview something you have coming up, or, you know, just remind them that you exist.

These blogging courses will teach you how to do that the right way.

17. Date Your List

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers Date Your List

Cost: $64

It’s no coincidence that both of the recommendations in this section approach your email list as a relationship between you and your readers. The first blogging course here, Date Your List, is a workbook that focuses on how you can nurture the relationship with those readers that have subscribed for more to convert them into buyers.

When you’re trying to make sales, the relationship you have with your audience, and how much they trust you, is what matters most. This blogging course and workbook will help you build that trust by learning the four types of emails to send to your subscribers, what matters in a newsletter, and how to do affiliate sales through your newsletter the right way.

18. List Love

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers List Love

Cost: $97

Another blogging course focused on building a strong relationship with your subscribers, this one goes into a bit more depth on what you can send your readers that they will love. The focus of this blogging course is more on what tangibles you can provide your readers, with a special focus on the value of “freebies,” along with blog posts you can use to promote those freebies.

The other big lesson of this blogging course is on segmenting your readers—and once you learn how to tailor your message to different types of subscribers, you’ll never want to go back. This course features so many lessons, assignments, and personalized examples that you’ll really feel like you’ve gotten your money’s worth.

Social Media-Focused Blogging Courses

These blogging courses are all focused on building a following on the social media channels that your audience spends time on.

19. What is Social?

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers What is Social

Cost: Free!

If you feel like you just need a crash blogging course in the social media world of today, start here. In this blogging course you’ll not only learn the best methods for growing your social strategy, you’ll actually put the lessons into practice as you take the blogging course.

It’s worth noting that auditing this blogging course is free, but those who pay to take the course through Northwestern University get extra content. This free blogging course is more for beginners that want an extremely practical and big picture look at the social media landscape.

20. Social Media Marketing Mastery: Learn Ads on 10+ Platforms

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers Social Media Marketing Mastery

Cost: $200

Thinking about how many social media platforms there are these days is enough to make you glaze over a bit, but this blogging course is the one stop shop to master advertising on every major platform. It covers Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Business, Tumblr, and Wordpress—just to name a few.

Learning advertising tailored to each platform has the unique advantage of also learning which platform could be right—or wrong—for your blog. Each platform has its own potential boon for you, but its no use targeting all of them at once! However, having every blogging course covered here gives you a lot of options in this regard. If you’re looking for something more comprehensive when it comes to marketing as a whole, check out these digital marketing courses that cover everything you could ever need to learn about marketing your blog.

21. The Perfect Pin: How to Create Viral Pinterest Images

Best Blogging Courses for Beginner Bloggers The Perfect Pin

Cost: $19

Which of the Best Online Blogging Courses Will You Take This Year?

Not only did you make it through my entire list of the best blogging courses… you took the most important step of taking blogging seriously.

Most bloggers don’t even make it that far, and their dream blogs stay just like that forever—only a dream.

Keep taking action, experimenting and learning from those who’ve already done what you hope to achieve.

And while I’m a big believer that all of these blogging courses here today will help immensely in achieving your blogging goals faster, I do have a bias toward recommending my own course as (by far) the most comprehensive blogging course on the market today. That’s Built to Blog. I also share behind the scenes with course students about what I’m doing to grow my other side blogs like SmartWP—along with helping my girlfriend to grow her site, Vegan Anj, too.

I want to invite you over to check out my blogging course, because I personally feel it’s the most in-depth educational resource in 2024—whether you’re a new blogger or an intermediate blogger that’s looking to grow to the next level.

The way you arrange points step-by-step is really helpful and easy to read and understand.

      • Their depth of common-sense content on Youtube is probably how most people find them. They’ve established a name for themselves there over the last 5 years or so by sharing simplified methods.

Disclaimer: I’m a yearly subscriber of their course(s).

I found them the way most others did: Youtube. After watching their videos for about three years without detecting a single drop of snake oil salesmanship (which dominated the blogging space up until the time I found them) is the reason I finally joined. Everything about them screams genuine-ness.

Lots of reasons to advocate for them.
        * The combo courses of both blogging and youtube channel creation. There are some weaknesses in the blogging course where niche selection and keyword research are concerned… probably not enough of a deep dive for either which is why I looked for a list and found this page.
        * Weekly masterminds (zoom-style sessions) with direct access to team members for questions. Sessions are usually recorded. Excellent content in there.
        * Community forum. I’m sure that’s nothing special in the space but the segmentation of niche-related ‘private’ forums for certain kinds of members might be somewhat unique.
        * Weekly private podcasts with industry and I.S. news.

  4. What a list! It’s really heartening to see bloggers going to the mat for other bloggers and their courses instead of plugging their own stuff all the time.

By the way, you said you tried a few of these courses, how many in all, if I may ask?

    • Thanks, Dani! Over the years I’ve tried ~2/3 of these either as a student myself or checking out a few modules to make sure they’re recommendation-worthy. Some of the ones I haven’t personally gotten into are a few of the ones on Udemy/Skillshare.

  7. The real value of a blogging course is not the process, it is the experience that the blogger shares with audience that is most valuable.
